Ten volunteer hours are highly encouraged each year per family; 5 hours for a single parent. The following descriptions, listed alphabetically, outline areas where parents can get involved and use their special gifts.
The Auction is CCS’s main fundraising tool during the year. This team of volunteers works together to develop a theme, collect donations, plan the event and publicize it to the school family and the public. We rely on all our families to participate in our Auction in some way, but the more you participate, the more you get to know other CCS parents. It’s a lot of fun!
This group obtains quality literature from several sources for various ages to be purchased by students and parents at the Book Fair, held in the fall. They establish the times for the Book Fair and order the books and inventorying, pricing, keeping and reconciling accounts, and returning any unsold books. They staff the book tables during the fair, too. While the children love to shop at the book fair and get great materials, we also gain a small percentage of the companies’ sales.
Assistance is needed to count and sort the box-top labels and send them in to redeem for classroom or school credit. We also need help in creating and collecting forms for various programs, as needed.
Volunteers are needed to suggest, plan and coordinate special activities that promote fellowship and relationships among CCS families, such as a family video night, family game night, and special clean-up day.
This event is scheduled for the spring of each year. The committee plans the activities for each classroom, orders any food and inflatables or games, organizes and sets up all rooms and activities, organizes volunteers, and coordinates ticket sales to offset the cost of food, prizes, and games.
This annual event in June is a favorite with students! Parents assist the Physical Education teacher with setting up games and activities, providing volunteers at each station, and distributing water.
These volunteers assist with lunchroom set-up (bringing milk from the kitchen), selling milk and water, heating food in the microwaves, and with clean-up (wiping the tables after students are finished eating). Volunteers assist weekly, monthly, or as needed.
To provide opportunities for our students to serve God through giving to others, volunteers coordinate mission projects such as "Operation Christmas Child," working a Gleaners' Food Bank, Salvation Army Reach Shelter week, and Missions month (February) at Cornerstone. This group also considers service opportunities such as making cards or baked goods for the elderly, singing at local retirement facilities, and other local outreaches. Family opportunities also may include visits to our sister church, Military Ave EPC, to assist with their programs.
These volunteers assist the music teacher with our evening school-wide music programs and work together to create scenery, set up staging and take down sets after the programs.
Volunteers are needed to assist with answering phones and filling in when the secretary is in the weekly staff Bible study or out of the office temporarily.
Parent volunteers help manage recess activities so that the students become more actively involved in group or individual activities and enjoy their recess break. Volunteers can commit to a regular day each week, monthly, or as needed.
This committee coordinates or provides the refreshments for the music program receptions, Kindergarten graduation, Teacher Appreciation luncheons, and other similar events.
The ski club committee interacts with Mt. Brighton about costs, information, start-up, cancellations, and weekly updates for skiing and then communicates information to the families. It also develops and distributes forms and necessary paperwork. (Each parent, though, is responsible for their own children skiing each week.)
