When Faith Takes a First Step
Every great school begins not with a building, but with a belief. In 1999, a small group of people in Livingston County dared to ask a bold question: What if children could receive an education that didn't just fill their minds, but shaped their souls? Out of that question — and a generous gift — Cornerstone Christian School was born.
The early days were marked more by prayer than by polish. Before a single student walked through the door, school leaders traveled, observed, and listened — learning what it truly meant to blend rigorous academics with a biblical worldview. When the doors finally opened, it was to just a handful of students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Small, yes. But planted in something unshakable.
Built Grade by Grade, Year by Year
Growth at Cornerstone didn't happen overnight. It happened the way faith usually works — steadily, quietly, and with purpose. New grades were added as the community grew. Families came. Teachers invested. Students thrived. By 2009, what had begun as a modest K–3 program had grown into a full Preschool through 8th grade school — accompanying children through every formative year of their education.
In 2024, the school marked 25 years. Not merely a milestone, but a testimony.
Where Every Student Is Known — and Protected
Walk into Cornerstone today, and you'll notice something immediately: the small class sizes aren't just a feature — they're a philosophy. Teachers don't just teach here. They know their students. They notice. They nurture. In a world where children can feel like numbers, Cornerstone insists on something different.
That same attentiveness shapes how Cornerstone approaches student safety. Keeping children safe is not an afterthought here — it is a calling. The school maintains thoughtful, well-practiced procedures designed to protect every child throughout the school day. Secure building practices, clear protocols, and a staff trained to respond with both competence and calm reflect a community that takes its role as a trusted steward of each family's most precious gift seriously. And because safety is never finished, Cornerstone continues to evaluate and strengthen its practices — always asking how it can do better.
A Curriculum That Develops the Whole Child
That commitment extends into the classroom. As Michigan schools face mounting challenges in literacy and mathematics, Cornerstone has responded with intentional, structured programs designed to genuinely equip students — not just test them. Meanwhile, the school's rich offerings in art, music, physical education, and Spanish ensure that students grow as whole people. And woven through all of it, anchoring everything: God's Word.
Spaces That Reflect the Vision
In 2023, the school's home was transformed through the church's "SHINE" project — updated classrooms, refreshed spaces, and a physical environment now as welcoming and secure as the community within it. Because the place where children learn matters too.
Still Rooted. Still Growing
Twenty-five years in, Cornerstone Christian School remains exactly what it set out to be: a ministry, a community, and a school where faith and learning are never separate. Committed to excellence. Devoted to safety. And still — always — helping students grow in wisdom, knowledge, and Christlike character.
Rooted in faith. Growing in wisdom. Committed to every child.
We rejoice in the students' lives transformed in our first decade and look forward to the future!"
