History

Cornerstone Christian School is a ministry of Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church and is located half way between Detroit and Lansing in southeast Michigan.  CCS opened its doors in 1999 with Kindergarten – 3rd grade.  As the student population has warranted, we have added grades since that time, completing our grade list in 2009 with the addition of the preschool.

Cornerstone Christian School has nearly 200 students in preschool-8th grades.  Our average class size is 15.  We have 19 staff members, including 2 administrators,  11 regular classroom teachers, 1 preschool aide and 1 secretary.

When Cornerstone Christian School opened its doors in 1999, our principal, Nancy Brownsey, and a steering committee provided for us our foundational documents.  These documents provided a focus for our entire constituency for the first few years of our existence.  In 2006, our staff embarked on STAR “Steps Toward Achieving Recognition” through the Association of Christian Schools International. As part of our project, the entire staff re-examined our mission, vision, philosophy, and educational beliefs.  These updated documents are included in the school Handbook.

In June, 2009, after 10 years of faithful service, Nancy Brownsey retired and now Dr. Arthur J. Hunt  & Mrs. Sandra Nettleingham lead the school as Head of School and Principal.  Here at CCS, we rejoice in the students' lives transformed in our first decade and look forward to the future!
