Head of School – Dr. Arthur J. Hunt
Dr. Arthur Hunt brings his skills as both a pastor and head of staff not only to Cornerstone EPC, but Cornerstone Christian School, as well. In addition to his duties as a Caring Ministries Pastor, Dr. Hunt now serves as the Head of Cornerstone Christian School. He also assists in worship and teaches on a regular basis. Dr. Hunt received a Bachelor of Theology degree from William Tyndale College, a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Covenant Theological Seminary. He and his wife Linda have three adult children and seven grandchildren.
Principal - Mrs. Sandra Nettleingham
Mrs. Nettleingham received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Music from Cedarville University. She completed her Master of Science in Administration, majoring in Educational Leadership, at Madonna University in 2007. Her teaching experiences include English, Music, Creative Writing, Yearbook, Speech, Drama and Preschool. Mrs. Nettleingham taught music and preschool at CCS before moving to school administration. Seven years ago, Mrs. Nettleingham became Principal at Cornerstone Christian School, where her passion is to educate students with a Christian worldview.
Preschool 3s & 4s & Beginnergarten – Mrs. Nancy Cullen
Mrs. Cullen received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and a Master of Education degree from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She taught Kindergarten in Georgia for seven years and worked for the St. Clare Shore District as a Kindergarten-3rd Grade Reading Intervention teacher for two years. Her professional activities have included Language Arts Curriculum writing and participation in both Curriculum and Kindergarten Assessment Committees, among others. This is Mrs. Cullen's ninth year teaching Preschool at CCS.
Preschool Aide – Mrs. Elfie Loubser
Mrs. Loubser received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. She taught in elementary schools in South Africa for 3 years and has taught pre-school Sunday School for 35 years. Along with her husband and 4 children, she immigrated to Michigan in 2007. She loves outdoor activities and has been involved with classical ballet as student and teacher since her childhood.
Kindergarten – Mrs. Cheryl Abraham
Mrs. Abraham received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and a Masters of Arts in Reading from Oakland University. She has over 17 years experience teaching first, second, and third grade. Other experiences include working as the principal of a K-8th grade summer school for over 400 students and serving on Curriculum Council for a public school. She is married and has three children that have all attended Cornerstone. She loves to read, travel, and spend time with family.This is Mrs. Abraham’s eighth year teaching at Cornerstone.
First Grade - Mrs. Dianne Turner
Mrs. Turner has 20 years of experience working with students as a classroom teacher and as an elementary administrator. She spent the majority of those years teaching kindergarten, but has also taught 5th, 6th and multi-age elementary classrooms. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Arbor University and a teaching certificate and Master of Arts in reading from Eastern Michigan University. Mrs. Turner is married and has two children in college. This is Mrs. Turner’s first year teaching at CCS.
Second Grade – Mrs. Barb McMullen
This is Mrs. McMullen’s second year at CCS. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University and then returned there to complete her work at the School of Education to become a teacher. She has experience teaching sixth grade and kindergarten. She enjoys volunteering for Vacation Bible School, children’s church, and outreach activities, along with playing volleyball and kayaking. This is Mrs. McMullen's fourth year at CCS.
Second Grade Aide Mrs. Lisa Giammalva
Mrs. Giammalva brings sixteen years of classroom teaching experience to Cornerstone. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University and her Reading Endorsement from Eastern Michigan University. Mrs. Giammalva is always ready to help students and teachers with a smile. This is her fifth year at CCS.
Third Grade - Mrs. Heather Orcutt
Mrs. Orcutt graduated from Grand Valley State University and received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Elementary Education. Mrs. Orcutt has experience teaching fourth grade in Tennessee and teaching first and second grade in Missouri. Other experiences include tutoring, working for Springhill Camps and substitute teaching in Grand Rapids Public Schools. In Mrs. Orcutt’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, completing home renovations and watching the Detroit Red Wings. This is Mrs. Orcutt’s second year teaching at Cornerstone Christian School.
Fourth Grade - Mrs. Lisa Adams
Mrs. Adams earned her Bachelor’s degree from Oakland University in Elementary Education and her Master’s degree in Reading. She taught in the Huron Valley School District for 16 years in various grade levels. After retiring from Huron Valley, she began pursuing her passion to teach students in a God- centered atmosphere. She began this journey teaching at West Highland Christian Academy and is now excited to be at Cornerstone for her first year. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family up north, hiking, biking, and cooking.
Fifth Grade – Miss Chyna Sparks
Miss Sparks graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a degree in Elementary Education, including endorsements in Science, Social Science, and Language arts. Most recently, Miss Sparks has guest-taught in the Huron Valley School District. In her free time Ms. Sparks enjoys nature walks, kayaking, snowboarding, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. This is Ms. Sparks’s third year teaching at CCS.
Middle School - Mrs. Rachel Buchanan
Mrs. Buchanan graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Her experience in the field of education includes three years teaching full-time at CCS middle school and seven years in various roles (Lead Teacher, Director, etc.) at the Sylvan Learning Center in Brighton. She loves reading, gardening, kickboxing, and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
Middle School – Mrs. Sara Bykowski
Mrs.Bykowski received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Life Sciences from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. She has 25 years of teaching experience in self-contained elementary grades, middle school Science and English as a second language. Mrs. Bykowski has also been a presenter at educator workshops on the topics of elementary school science, differentiated instruction and connecting Science with Literature. She was a State of Indiana nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2005. This is her twelfth year teaching at Cornerstone Christian School, where she also coaches cheerleading.
Middle School - Mrs. Sarah Visser
Mrs. Visser received her education from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, with a major in Elementary Education. Her emphasis included Reading, Language Arts, and Music Performance. This is her first year teaching at Cornerstone and comes with one year of teaching 6th Grade in Ypsilanti. In her leisure time she enjoys leading a small group and volunteering at LifeChurch in Canton with her husband, hiking, kayaking, reading, playing with her puppy Chloe, and composing/performing musically. She is eager and excited to be serving the Cornerstone Family!
Algebra - Mrs. Sarah Zimmermann
Mrs. Zimmermann graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and worked in the automotive industry until her eldest daughter was born. This is Mrs. Zimmermann’s second year teaching at Cornerstone.
Geometry - Mrs. Denelle Kruszka
Mrs. Kruszka graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering from Michigan State University and a Masters of Science in Engineering Management from Oakland University. She worked in the automotive industry until her children were born. She has tutored students from elementary through high school and joined the CCS staff this school year.
Art - Mrs. Betsy McDaniel
Mrs. McDaniel received a Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Art Education from Calvin College and her Master of Arts in Painting from Eastern Michigan University. She taught middle school Art for six years in the Brighton Area Schools before joining our staff. This is Mrs. McDaniel's sixteenth year teaching Art at CCS.
Music - Mrs. Abbie-Jo Wilcox
Mrs. Wilcox received her Bachelor of Arts from Hope College in Holland. Her experiences include teaching English and Music, and she has held numerous Music Director positions for various organizations. Mrs. Wilcox brings her joy for the Lord and commitment to using her gifts to honor Him to our school. This is her fourth year teaching at Cornerstone.
Physical Education – Athletic Director Cori Kurncz
Mrs. Kurncz received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, Dearborn and is a certified personal trainer. Professionally, she has worked many years in both children's and youth ministry. In addition to ministry work, she has eleven years of combined professional coaching experience as a gymnastics, fitness, strength, pom and cheerleading instructor. This is Mrs. Kurncz' seventh year teaching at CCS.
Spanish – Mrs. Rebekah Pollard
Mrs. Pollard graduated from Eastern Michigan University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Spanish for Secondary Education. She has 7 years of experience teaching high school students in Colorado and middle school students in Detroit, MI. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, knitting, and spending time with her husband, son, and dog. This is Mrs. Pollard’s first year at CCS.
School Secretary - Mrs. Clarice Rose
Mrs. Clarice Rose has seved as a children’s teacher with Community Bible Study for 13 years and has served in various capacities in athletics. She enjoys kayaking and spending time with her three grandchildren. Her welcoming disposition, love for the Lord, and capable skills have made her a great asset to Cornerstone Christian School for eleven years.
