A Message From CCS
Putting First Things First
A recent business lecture by Simon Sinkek illuminates an essential feature in the success or failure of varying organizations: many organizations fail by beginning with an emphasis on WHAT they do. This is eventually fleshed out into a business plan of HOW, followed lastly by a mission statement attempting to tie it all together.
However, successful organizations begin by asking a far more fundamental question: WHY? Why do we do what we do, or make what we make? When organizations talk about what they believe about why they exist, they attract others who also believe the same thing. This same principle is wisely applied to Christian ministries, such as ours. The fundamental WHY of Cornerstone is to partner with parents who, like us, place primary importance on training children to have a Biblical worldview. Increasingly, churches and Christian schools are coming into contact with parenting philosophies that mirror the world’s thinking more than Biblical thinking. This presents a challenge to all in ministry, as we try to develop true Biblical thinking in children, at the same time that some Christian parents are not quite sure what that means. When school and home walk step-in-step with the heart, knowledge, and desire to train children within a Biblical framework that withstands culture, God is pleased and glorified. That is why at Cornerstone, we place first things first by placing God at the center of our mission, and letting that emphasis overflow and extend into the HOW and WHAT of our organization. It is also why we ask you as parents to partner with us in committing yourself and your child’s education to the central mission of Christ as you support us in prayer and become integrated into our school family.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Prov. 9:10 NIV). CCS exists so that our students will graduate with a firm understanding and knowledge of the Holy One. We equip students for the lives God has planned for them. 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 NIV states, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” As we teach reading, math, social studies, and all other subjects through a Biblical worldview, the Lord will use that to equip our students for His plan for their lives. We build everything upon a foundation of Christ and a Biblical worldview, but that does not come at the cost of academic excellence; rather, our excellence is enhanced by a proper framework. Because CCS does not receive any government funding, we maintain an environment of integrity where our resources, teachers, and attention may be directed to the Lord uninhibited by state regulation.
From the beginning of CCS, we haven’t just accepted the top tier of students who test to come into our school. However, because of our small class sizes, our certified teachers who keep up on best practices in education, and parents who support students’ schoolwork at home, all built on the foundation of Christ, our students do exceptionally well. This is seen in our standardized test scores and in the fact that students who stay through until graduation are accepted into the most challenging local high schools and experience success there.
Knowing that people do not buy WHAT organizations do, but rather, WHY they do it, we invite you to “buy into” Cornerstone Christian School as we seek to educate our children for the life ahead. Believe in the blessing we have to adore Christ openly; believe that the Lord is essential in our children’s education; believe that God can take our work here, and your work at home, and turn it into something amazing in our children’s lives, for HIS GLORY!
